Unified Transport System

Description

Why

What if you could entirely rethink the mobility infrastructure of Eindhoven? That is the question KCAP, project manager of the KnoopXL developments, asked us for this project.

What

One question that became the foundation of our concept design was: why are our modes of transport so divided? Why do we have to transition between modes of transport? What if we could go from A to B in a single sitting?

The final concept included a new vehicle existing out of three parts. The main body is the 'Pod', which is the space where people are seated. Then there is the self-driving module. Lastly, a drone carrier. These three parts would make it possible for the vehicle to travel by road, rail, and sky without ever having to stop between transitioning.

We then worked out how a system of this scope could function and what the possible development costs would be.

Results

The project was well-received by both the client and our teachers. Surpsingly, right alongside our project completion, Audi, Italdesign, and Airbus presented a very similar concept (this gave a feeling of confirmation that our concept held potential).

Learning points

This project was the first project that got me thinking about cities and their underlying systems. It was also a project where I took on a strong leadership role that carried this project to a level of quality that far exceeded that of our peers. I also practiced in my Blender and research skills.
